Memorial Garden in New Castle NH

We were contacted by a homeowner in New Castle, New Hampshire who wanted to transform a small, challenging area of her property into a peaceful memorial garden. The space had limited access, a slight change in elevation, and an existing tree stump covered in moss directly in the center of the area. The client wanted to preserve the stump and make it part of the focal point.

During our consultation, we worked through the existing conditions and designed the feature around what was already there. The concept was a small pondless waterfall with a gentle, babbling-brook style stream that would wrap around the left side of the moss-covered stump. On the right side, we incorporated a bubbling boulder to create another focal point and provide the soothing sound of moving water.

The homeowner had some ideas in mind for the overall look, but it was difficult to visualize exactly how the different elements would come together within such a small space. To help bridge that gap, we used AI to create a rough visual impression of what the finished garden could look like. When she saw the concept come to life, her response was immediate: she loved it and gave us the green light to begin.

One of the most important elements of the project was finding the right boulder for the bubbling feature. We hand-selected a large stone with distinctive character and carefully positioned it within the garden. We then core-drilled the boulder to create the bubbling water effect, turning a single piece of stone into one of the defining features of the space.

Lighting was incorporated throughout the feature to allow the garden to continue to come alive after sunset. Each waterfall drop received its own light, while additional lighting highlights the bubbling boulder and the moss-covered stump at the center of the garden.

Every water feature we build is unique to its setting and the people who will enjoy it. But creating a memorial garden carries a particular significance. Our goal was not simply to add a waterfall to this space, but to create a quiet place filled with natural stone, water, light, and greenery—a space that feels peaceful, beautiful, and meaningful.
